About the Department
Established in 1960 with the mission of imparting quality education in the field of Physics both at UG as well as PG level and it is also a research centre to pursue PhD degree. The department offers credit based courses in basic Physics to first year engineering (B.Tech.) students and electives at higher semesters. Two- year postgraduate programme, Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Physics was started from the year 2008. The department is equipped with different laboratories such as, Thin Film lab, Optoelectronics Lab, Nanomaterials and Crystal Growth Lab, Material Processing Lab, Material Research lab, Computational Laboratory, etc. The department is strengthened with 10 faculty members. At present 39 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. degree. The R&D activities have gained momentum with funding from various agencies like DST, SERB,ISRO, DIT, ADA, MHRD etc.
